Cute little speakeasy where you have to walk through a bookcase. The front desk guy is a bit clueless though. When we got there he just said they’re full and we had to ask twice if we can wait. Unfortunately there was some queue, as the place was quite crowded, but we waited for a good reason. The wait was fast, and once inside we had a very nice experience.
The bartender, Kris, was really good and experienced. I had few complex cocktails that I really loved. We also had a nice chat with him, as he speaks English very well.
Cocktails I personally ordered might not be the most beautiful and looking ones, but the spectrum was complex and I really enjoyed the evening.

We speak highly of Speak Low!
No reservation can be made prior arrival. It is supposed to be a hidden speakeasy bar but no longer such a secret, with the constant inflow of customers.
Speak Low deserves its position both The World’s and Asia’s 50 Best Bars lists. I have been to a number of Asia Top 50 bars in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and I must say that this one is on top of my list!
We gained access through a sliding bookshelf inside a cocktail equipment outlet and head for the second floor where we were able to sit at the bar table.
The third floor is a more popular choice but second floor is more lively. We started with a Fuxing Cooler and Serenity. The first one is some kind of chinese wine with oolong tea and a layer of cheese, while Serenity is very refreshing, combining Vodka with lichee cello. Both were great!
The vibe was so good and welcoming, we shared our drinks flavour and experience with a couple beside us. Making new friends at a bar, why not!
We didn’t want to leave and opted for another signature cocktail, which is Sawadee-cup, made with brown butter washed rum, Thai iced tea and apioca bubbles.

Absolutely loved my visit to Very Charming Lounge – the name truly lives up to the experience! From the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the warm, intimate atmosphere. As a guest of The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, I was curious to visit Flair Rooftop Bar after hearing about it from a member of the Executive Lounge team. Unfortunately, my overall experience left much to be desired - especially considering it’s part of the same hotel.
Upon arrival, we were greeted (or rather not greeted) by indifferent front staff who seemed disinterested and struggled with basic English. We were seated indoors, handed a worn-out menu with ripped pages, and the whole welcome felt more like a formality than hospitality. Thankfully, the waiters at the table were much more attentive and friendly.
The cocktails were fine - what you’d expect from any upscale rooftop venue, but nothing memorable. The views, of course, are stunning and easily the highlight. I attempted to reserve a table for the following evening, which turned out to be near impossible with the rooftop staff. It was only through the helpful team at the Executive Lounge that the booking went through - oddly enough, this seemed to flip a switch.
The next night, we were met with the same staff but suddenly greeted with over-the-top politeness - albeit in an inauthentic, performative way. That said, we received a great table and the food genuinely surprised me: while this is clearly a cocktail-forward venue, the dishes we had were actually excellent.
Still, let’s call it what it is: Flair is a bar for the view, the photo, and the fleeting moment. It caters more to outside guests coming for a quick picture than it does to Ritz-Carlton hotel guests expecting elevated, consistent service. While the second evening was certainly an improvement, it didn’t change the overall impression.

상하이 최고의 루프탑 바가 리츠칼튼 플레어임엔 이견이 없지만 동방명주와 황푸 강을 한눈에 담을 수 없단 아쉬움이 있다. 그리하여 상하이를 떠나기 전 루프탑 바를 하나 더 찾았다.
북와이탄에 위치한 Vue Bar 되겠고 플레어 다음가는 야경으로 잘 알려져 있다. 하얏트 온 더 번드 호텔 32층에 있어 투숙객은 무료입장이 가능하지만 아닐 경우엔 입장료가 붙는다.
방문 당시 입장료는 128위안으로 음료 한 잔이 포함돼 가성비가 나름 괜찮았다. 일요일이라 저녁 8시쯤 워크인해 바로 입장했고 금요일, 토요일 저녁엔 분명 웨이팅이 생길듯하다.
루프탑 바는 내부 분위기가 좋든 말든 큰 의미가 없으나 호텔 내 바답게 높은 층고에 널찍하니 내부도 나쁘지 않았다. 인테리어에 개성이랄 건 없어도 유리창 너머 뷰만큼은 끝내줬다.
뭔가 클럽처럼 돼 있는 구조라 한층 위로 올라가야 루프탑이 나오는데 거기로 음료를 들고 가서 즐겨도 무방하다. 일단 주문은 카운터에서 하고 요청하면 루프탑으로도 가져다준다.
입장료에 포함된 음료는 메뉴 중 고르면 되고 몇 가지는 안된다고 안내받았다. 칵테일 맛으로 온 게 아니니 그게 뭔지는 귀담아듣지 않았고 대충 맨 위에 있는 진 스프리츠로 시켰다.
루프탑으로 올라와 즐겼으며 진 스프리츠는 그냥 밍밍한 아페롤 스프리츠여서 매우 실망스러웠다. 입장료로 되는 칵테일 평균이 이 수준이라면 차라리 와인 한잔하는 게 좋겠다 싶다.
루트탑은 원형 구조로 돼 있고 규모가 크진 않아 작은 테라스에 가까웠다. 예약자 전용 테이블이 몇 개 놓여있는데 방문 당시 예약자가 따로 없어서 자유롭게 앉을 수 있게끔 해줬다.
칵테일 맛과 루프탑 규모엔 아쉬움이 남지만 푸둥, 와이탄, 황푸 강이 다 내려다보이는 뷰는 돈값을 다 하고도 남았다. 황푸 강을 낀 푸둥이 자아내는 풍경은 상하이 야경 그 자체였다.

I don't understand Chinese so I don't know their unit of weight. I said I only wanted to buy 10 grams of each. They said it was too little and scooped the tea into the bag themselves. Their price for 3 bags of tea was 980 yuan, I said it was expensive so I didn't buy it. In the end, I only bought a bag of tea for 360 yuan because I saw that they had already packaged the goods and also because I was worried about my own safety. When I got home, I read the information on the red note and saw that many Chinese people were also scammed like that. I felt sad and disappointed that such a thing happened on a day of traveling. I reported this scam shop selling flower tea on many platforms and asked for a refund on wechat pay. I don't hope to get my money back but I also hope that no one else will be scammed. Food is just OK, However, the service here is terrible.
Here is our experience.
1. we are a group of 8, they only provide 1 manual, when we ask for more manuals, they said they always give 1 manual per table, no matter how many people in the group. turns out the order time become extremely long.
2. Food being served one by one with long interval, not severed all together. If this is a Chinese restaurant, I am fine with it, but it is a western one! we have to wait for all the food to start! the steak no longer hot when all the food served!
3. they do not accept split receipts, come on! we are on business trip, and in a western style restaurant, separate bill should be a basic service, isn't it? They eventually did the separate bill but with a horrible face like we owe them a million dollars.
4. when they bring the bill, they bring the bill one by one with long interval again, I have no idea why it take that long to print receipt. 3 of us even being called to the front desk to wait for the receipt to pay.
5. This really pissed me off. when the last one of us paying his bill, all the rest was waiting at the entrance, and then a waiter retained all of us and ask us to show the receipt to him again! what the hell is this???
This suppose to be a fine restaurant and we spent like $80-$100 US dollar per person here, with all above experience, I am really regret we stepped in.
I am sharing my experience here to save your time and money.

A great experience and wonderful views spoiled by the ending. We booked in here for 8:30 (we did arrive at 9 as the traffic was unreal!) - last bookings were for 9:30. At 10pm we were told it was last orders but what they didn’t tell us was that the air conditioning would be switched off as well. By 10:30 the temperature in the restaurant was very uncomfortable and getting hotter. The problem was that the food was still coming and it was amazing. Credit to the kitchen staff - incredible dishes - we had the set menu for ¥1380 each and the portions were very generous and yet by 10pm it was clear that staff wanted us to leave as they replaced each empty plate (sometimes not quite empty) with a fresh dish. The prices are steep for Shanghai but not when compared to other cities - it’s a great place for a special meal but I would recommend coming at 7:30 latest. We had a great time knowing that it was significantly over priced at 350 RMB minimum charge per person. We spent less than the minimum so even with the 10% surcharge we still kept it at 700 total. Drinks are very overpriced- for example the smallest whiskey pour I’ve ever had was 118 RMB and beer (296 ml) was 88. However if you go there for the entertainment and nostalgia it was fun and worth going. The halls and lobby in the Peace Hotel are beautiful. The band was slow as some say but still enjoyable. All this info is just to help you have advanced information. I would still recommend you go. We made a reservation with the concierge on the same day. We were not staying at the hotel if that matters (I think you get slightly better seats but our seats were fine). Visited here for the first time yesterday with a group of friends. Really fun and chill vibe. Rae (hopefully I’m spelling it right) looked after our group and was very personable and friendly. She remembered our names and also recommended places to visit in Shanghai as we had come from Nanjing.
